Changing the revenue mix can involve changing the balance between existing taxes and non-tax revenue, and between these taxes and revenues and entirely new sources of tax and non-tax revenue.
Most changes to existing taxes can be found under the Current Revenues heading. New taxes are grouped here, under Alternative Revenues. At present there are two: an Inter-Generational Transfer Tax and an Internet Download Tax.
It is planned to add more alternative revenues, including an Electric Car Tax, a Sugar Tax, a Minimum Income Tax and a Tobin Tax - data and interest permitting. (A Tobin Tax is a tax on financial transactions, often targeted at international and/or high volume transactions.)
There may be other taxes or revenues you consider the Commonwealth should raise. If they are significant - say, $100 million per annum - and have a degree of academic or popular support please get in touch and provide details. If they meet the test of materiality and there is sufficient information and interest to build a model we will try to do so.
